Officers reported they were contacted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.

Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then found numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials state preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for information.

A high-ranking official stated the attack left him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
