Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks his initial championship since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after that period of that year.

Success also signifies he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his ability to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the player has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a competitive third set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
